In my personal experience I tried almost a DOZEN modeling tools until I settled with MAX (it wasn't called "MAX" way back then). ;p
I tried Maya and found it *way* more powerful than MAX in *many* ways, but the learning curve and weird GUI set me down.
Like you said, it takes much longer to get productive with Maya and I didn't want to spend that time with it. ^^

Maybe, but I don't want to try and try and try different apps to find the right one.... I worked with autodesk products for 6 years and when I tried maya, I took an hour to make a blob from a ball.... it was depressing! T_T

If you know of some hardcore winners let me know, there are too many knock offs to go through installation after installation.



^_^ besides, windows hates me, hence why I can't use max recently cuz it won't work in ubuntu T_T

You should try more than just MAX and Maya. Those were the only tools when I got started, but nowadays there are many more options, most of them much cheaper. ^^
